Vaccination Services

At Meroo Street Family Practice, we provide vaccination services in Bomaderry and Nowra for children, adults, older people, pregnant patients, and travellers. Our clinic offers routine childhood immunisations, annual flu vaccines, COVID-19 vaccines, catch-up vaccinations, selected travel vaccines, and advice on funded vaccine eligibility. If you are unsure which vaccines you or your family may need, our team can help guide you based on age, health needs, travel plans, and current Australian immunisation advice. The clinic provides vaccines for infants, children, and adults, including government-funded vaccines for eligible groups.

Vaccines For Children, Adults, And Older People

Vaccination plays an important role in protecting individuals and the wider community from vaccine-preventable diseases. Our clinic offers immunisation support across different stages of life, from childhood vaccinations through to adult boosters and age-based vaccines.

Childhood Immunisations And Catch-up Vaccines

We provide routine childhood immunisations in line with the National Immunisation Program. The lists childhood protection against diseases including polio, whooping cough, hepatitis B, diphtheria, tetanus, Hib, pneumococcal disease, meningococcal disease, MMR, chickenpox, and HPV for eligible adolescents.

If your child has missed a vaccine, moved from overseas, or has incomplete records, we can also assess whether a catch-up vaccination schedule may be needed.

For children’s appointments, please bring your child’s Medicare card and NSW Blue Book where available so vaccine and health records can be updated.

Adult, Flu, COVID-19, Shingles, RSV, And Other Vaccines

Vaccination needs can continue through adulthood, especially during pregnancy, older age, travel, or when certain medical conditions increase the risk of serious illness.

Pregnancy vaccinations

Vaccination during pregnancy may help protect both the pregnant patient and the baby. The current FAQ states that influenza is recommended in any trimester, pertussis is ideally given between 20 and 32 weeks, maternal RSV vaccine is funded from 28 weeks, and COVID-19 may also be recommended depending on current guidance.

If you are pregnant and unsure which vaccines are suitable for you, our GPs can discuss timing based on your stage of pregnancy and current Australian recommendations.

Travel vaccinations and pre-travel advice

If you are travelling overseas, it is best to plan your vaccine appointment early. Booking a travel health consultation 6 to 12 weeks before departure to allow time for multi-dose courses and full protection where needed.

Please bring your travel itinerary and any previous vaccine records to your appointment so our team can review what may be relevant for your destination and timing.

When to get vaccinated

The timing of vaccination can vary depending on the vaccine and your age or health needs.

If you are not sure whether you are due for a vaccine, our team can help review your history and current eligibility.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which vaccines are available at your clinic?

Common vaccinations provided onsite include routine childhood immunisations, influenza (flu), COVID-19 and selected travel vaccines. Availability can vary—please call or book to confirm.

Who is eligible for free (NIP-funded) vaccines?

Under the National Immunisation Program, many vaccines are free for eligible groups, including children, pregnant people, people aged 65+, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and people with certain medical conditions. From 2 June 2025, Shingrix® (shingles) is funded for people aged 65+, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people 50+, and certain immunocompromised adults. Gap fees may apply to the visit.

How often should I get a COVID-19 vaccine in 2025?

ATAGI advises:

≥75 years: a dose every 6 months (recommended).

65–74 years and 18–64 with severe immunocompromise: every 12 months (eligible for 6-monthly after risk–benefit discussion).

Other adults 18–64: eligible every 12 months.
COVID-19 vaccinations are funded for recommended/eligible people (including those without Medicare).

When should I get the flu shot—and do kids need two doses?

Get vaccinated before flu season (typically from March/April). Most people need one dose a year, but children 6 months to <9 years getting flu vaccine for the first time need two doses 4+ weeks apart. Some groups are funded on the NIP (e.g., <5s, ≥65s, pregnancy, certain medical conditions, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples).

Can I get flu, COVID-19 and other vaccines on the same day?

Yes. ATAGI confirms co-administration is acceptable (e.g., influenza with pertussis/RSV/Shingrix; COVID-19 with other vaccines for people ≥5 years). Your GP/nurse will advise what’s suitable for you.

Do you offer travel vaccinations—when should I book?

Yes, travel vaccinations and advice are available with our GPs. Book your travel health consult 6–12 weeks before departure to allow time for multi-dose courses and full protection.

I’m pregnant—what vaccines are recommended?

Vaccination during pregnancy helps protect you and your baby. Current guidance recommends influenza (any trimester), pertussis (whooping cough) ideally 20–32 weeks, and maternal RSV vaccine (Abrysvo®) funded from 28 weeks; COVID-19 is also recommended. Your GP will personalise timing.

What should I bring to a vaccination appointment?

Bring your Medicare card, any GP referral/plan (if applicable), your immunisation history or child’s NSW “Blue Book”, and (for travel) your itinerary and vaccine records. If the Blue Book is lost, NSW Health can arrange a replacement.

Do you do catch-up vaccinations for children and adults?

Yes. We can assess your history and follow catch-up schedules based on the Australian Immunisation Handbook and NIP. This ensures you’re protected as quickly and safely as possible.

How do I book and are there fees?

Call reception or book online. Some vaccines are NIP-funded; a clinic fee may apply for the visit or for non-funded vaccines (e.g., some travel vaccines). We’ll confirm costs when you book.
